This is often said to be the best shore dive on Grand Cayman Island. Access is from the shared parking lot of the Cracked Conch restaurant/Macabuca Bar/Sundivers Dive Shop. I hoped that since the property wasn't purely a dive business they wouldn't enforce tropical dive rules. I figured if they had a problem with me diving by myself, I could park and enter from the adjacent empty parking lot behind a liquor store. It turned out that despite some stares from the dive shop employees, they left me alone. I snorkeled out towards some floats marking the dive site.
I saw the reef drop-off in a U-shaped "bay" below me. I descended here and saw a turtle swimming around the coral. This was the only turtle I saw on the island.
I followed the turtle out to the right along an overhanging wall covered with coral and sponges. This small wall met the sand at about 60' deep.
I returned along the top of the wall until I was back at the underwater bay.
From the underwater bay, I now swam out to the left. In this direction there was a cavern with several tarpon in and around it.
I swam back up to the top of the wall and made my way back towards shore.
I still think Dart Family Park was my favorite dive on Grand Cayman Island, but this place was a close second.
