Even though this is my favorite Southern Vancouver Island shore dive, I've been avoiding coming here for the last year or so. The development on the point just makes me too upset when I remember how beautiful this area used to be. I had heard from some fishermen that during the blasting to level the point, large rocks were flying into the water. I also knew that the developers had applied to build an underwater sewer outfall right over part of this site. I don't know if it was approved or not, but I recently saw on a zoning map that there was a water lease stretching out from the point into the Strait (presumably for the sewer outfall). I wanted to see what effect this has had so far on the site underwater so I came here for another dive on Aug. 23, 2015. I noticed an area below the point with piles of fresh boulders from the blasting piled up over what used to be marine life. I didn't see any sign of a sewer outfall. Maybe it wasn't approved, although obviously when money's involved, nature doesn't have a chance.

I swam out towards the canyon between the point and the islet. Visibility was less than expected (10-15'). All the sun we've been getting has caused an extended plankton bloom.

The wall on the islet side of the 45'-deep canyon is my favorite part of this dive. The current was too strong to take many close-up photos.

There were piles of fresh, fallen boulders at the base of the wall under the point from the blasting.
There's an area (where the channel widens out) that's full of clusters of fish-eating anemones and urchins. This is the area that's shown on a zoning map as being the site for the proposed sewer outfall. So far I didn't see any sign of it underwater.
