This is one of the most popular shore dives in the Halifax area. It's close to Peggy's Cove in St. Margaret's Bay. Paddy's Head Island is almost connected to the mainland shore, but there is a narrow, shallow channel between them. A short bridge crosses the channel and the dive site is right before the bridge at a small sandy beach. Most of this area is very shallow and sandy, but on the chart there is a steeper area going down to around 60 feet on the left-hand point (when looking out from shore). When I showed up here it was a nice, calm, sunny day. Visibility in the shallows near the beach wasn't too bad (maybe 15-20 feet), but when I reached the farther parts of the bay, visibility went back down to the usual 6-10 feet. Near the point there was a series of walls and ledges dropping down fairly steeply to a flat sand bottom at 50 feet deep. As at the other local dives this time of year, there was almost no marine life. The only moving thing I saw was a large lobster in a crack on the wall. I also saw 4 anemones. This would likely be a great dive some other time of year when the visibility was better and the marine life was at home.
