I tried to go to Possession Point today (Oct. 3, 2010), but the swell was climbing 8 feet up the rocks so I came to Hill Head instead. The surface of the water looked red from a plankton bloom, but it was only a foot or two deep. Beneath it, visibility was 6-10 feet in the shallows and 15 feet below 30 feet deep. Because of that surface "red tide", there wasn't much light deeper down. I was still impressed by the amount of tunicates, California cucumbers and sea stars. Many of the boulders looked like frosted cakes with strawberries. The water must also have been pretty warm since my dive was an hour and ten minutes long and I didn't even feel cold.
