I came out to Clover Point again on April 23, 2017 to keep looking for the boxcar wrecks promised by the no-longer-existing dive website (Kerry's Scuba Page). I found an archived copy of this webpage online and refreshed my memory of the description of where the boxcars were located. I wanted to find the reefs (visible on the side-scan image) on the East side of the sewer pipe reef. I even convinced myself that I could see some 20-foot-long boxcar-like objects on the sidescan image.
I saw a school of copper rockfish that reminded me of the large group of copper rockfish from the sewer pipe reef. Behind this school, there was a pile of boulders that looked just like the sewer pipe reef. I was confused and disoriented, thinking I had swam in the wrong direction back to the sewer pipe reef. I swam around this new boulder pile and realized that this was a separate boulder pile I'd never seen before. It was about 60-65' deep. I swam out South a bit to look for boxcars, but I only saw a flat plain of sand/gravel.
I wasn't sure exactly where this boulder pile was on the sidescan image, but I think it was at the South edge of the system of reefs. I want to come back as soon as my schedule and the wind and current allow to visit these reefs again and maybe swim out South some more to look for the boxcars (if they actually exist).
