I didn't have the time to take my boat out today so I came to the end of the breakwater again (Aug. 23, 2009). I'm glad I did, since these are some of the best dives I've been having all summer. I saw a school of black rockfish in the shallows near the end and there were some strange rockfish hanging around with them. I don't think I've seen them before and I'm not sure what they are. They looked sort of like the silver-grey rockfish I've seen a couple of times around the rocks, but they were much more orange. Visibility was about 30 feet. There were also the usual thousands of more common rockfish. I even saw a ratfish off over the sand at the base of the slope. I've only seen ratfish 3 times in the Victoria area and they've all been here at the breakwater.
