This was a second dive of the day on Sept. 2, 2023. I wasn't thrilled about taking a boat charter to a shore dive, but the captain (Abyssal Charters) mentioned that the dive would be a drift along the shoreline from "End of the Road" towards the "Middle of the Road" site. Whenever I've dove these two sites from shore (and only on a day with a very low current exchange), I've always stayed around the areas close to the entry-points because of the threat of current. Now, with a live boat I'd be able to satisfy my curiosity about what was between these sites.
Visibility was about 20' and maybe 30' deeper down. Like the last times I dove here, I didn't see any strawberry anemones at the "End of the Road" site until I reached a depth of 65-70'. Farther South along Whisky Point, there are still lots of them much shallower. I drifted along in the current, which was pretty strong in places. -Definitely not a day to dive this area from shore. The bottom was a mix of stepping ledges and walls with some rubble slopes. The marine life was, as expected for this area, dominated by strawberry anemones and a variety of mostly yellow-coloured sponges. My maximum depth was just over 80'.
For the last bit of the dive, I had drifted along in the shallows. When I surfaced, I saw that I had made it all the way to the "Rock" dive site. From "End of the Road", this is a distance of 1 kilometer. I don't think I've ever done a dive that covered that much distance before.
