I came back up to Chemainus to dive the drydock wrecks again on July 21, 2024. This place must be more popular than it used to be since the parking lot was full and there was a convoy of vehicles waiting for a spot to free up. I parked on the road instead. It was the lowest tide I've ever seen here. There was another group of divers here scootering out to the 737 plane.
Visibility in the shallows was around 10'. I was hoping it would clear up deeper, but it didn't and it was pretty dark.
I visited the boom boat that sits on the mud near the drydocks. When I first dove here, there was a field of sea pens between the drydocks and the boom boat. Then they disappeared. Today, there was still no sign of them.
I swam back to the drydocks.
I started the swim along the gravel plumose anemone mound back towards shore. I came across a low, rock ridge and realized that I had somehow swam in the wrong direction and ended up at Hospital Rock. This is the second time in a row that I've done this here. I abandoned my intuition navigation and followed my compass back to shore instead.
