This was the first dive (Sept. 21, 2024) of a weekend of diving with Sun Fun charters. It's probably the most famous dive site off the Port Hardy area. Basically the entire West side of Browning Pass is a big wall, but this particular site is where the wall drops down straight from the cliffs on shore to deeper than most divers care to go. We dropped in right next to shore and saw the bottom drop down beneath us. My maximum depth was 100'. Visibility was at least 50'. Like most of this side of the pass, the wall was covered with small white plumose anemones, various yellow sponges and lots of red soft coral. Unfortunately, my macro camera wouldn't turn on underwater so I was only able to take wide angle photos on this dive. Also, the memory card that I used to take surface photos became corrupted so all the pictures of the dive boat, the surface interval on a beach, etc. were all not recoverable.
With the great visibility we had today, this site really lived up to its reputation as one of the best cold water dive sites in the world. It's definitely a "bucket list" site that you have to dive if you're ever diving off the Port Hardy area.
With the corrupted memory card, these are the only salvageable photos of the many that I took of the whale (humpback?) that was hanging around in Browning Pass after the dive.
