I came back on Sept. 25, 2021 to try and find the big deeper wall that I've had no luck finding over the years. This time, I swam out from the beach and headed North-West.
Visibility was 20-30' in the shallows and gradually cleared to over 50' so it was a good day for topographical exploration. I swam out from the beach and down the slope to about 110' deep. I saw the small wall that I recognized from last time since it still had the small cloud sponge on it. The wide angle photos I took on this part of the dive were lost since the memory card was corrupted for some reason.
I left that small wall area and continued to swim North along the slope about 110' deep. With the good visibility I could see deeper down the sandy slope and if the deep wall was anywhere around the area I would have seen it. There was a smaller rock area and areas covered with bits of broken rock, but no sign of a large wall dropping down.
Finally, after swimming quite far, I saw some rocky areas far below me down the slope. I'd guess that they were about 130' deep. They didn't look like a wall, but more like shallow ledges of rock stepping down. By now, I was well into a decompression obligation so I took a few quick photos from a distance and headed back up the slope.
Back up at 60' deep off the point, I reached the boulder slope that I remembered from one of the first times I dove here.
Up shallower, I spent a decent part of the dive along the small wall.
I swam up from the top of the small wall back to shore.
After looking at the sidescan image, there don't seem to be any large rocky areas out from the beach where I've been looking for the deep wall. It does show a large rocky area reaching out into depths over 150' deep off the West tip of the point. The rocky areas I sighted down deep at the end of my deeper search might be the beginnings of this area. I now think the semi-mythical deep wall is probably the edge of this rocky area shown on the sidescan image. If so, it's really is too far to be practical to visit using the beach I've been entering from. If I try again, I'll probably enter off the tip of the small rocky point on the North side of the beach.
